Consisting of two or more materials, one of which must be a non-ferrous metal, nonferrous alloys offer manufactured a variety of useful characteristics ranging from certain magnetic and electrical properties to sheer strength and resistance to corrosion.
Non-ferrous alloys are put to a variety of useful applications requiring non-magnetic, lightweight, high strength compounds . . . Including medical device construction (tantalum sheet metal, for example, is frequently used to create surgical instruments), in the manufacture of electrical and electronic devices and so on, nonferrous metals and nonferrous alloys are known for their overall versatility, high density high melting points.
Other non-ferrous alloys know as transition metals-including zirconium, hafnium, osmium and tantalum are used to manufacture compounds such as osmium tetroxide (a catalyst used to accelerate chemical reactions) and aluminum zirconium (an ingredient in just about every antiperspirant), to name only two.
